The Body Shop Shea Body Butter

RATING (out of 5 stars): 3.5 stars

COST: $18 for 6.9 ounces (or check out the mini – $6 for 1.7 ounces)

THE SKINNY: As soon as winter hits, I go on the hunt for the best, thickest, creamiest lotions out there. The Body Shop Shea Body Butter fits the bill pretty well.

The shea butter formula is super thick and creamy and went on amazingly smooth. The label says this product is for “very dry skin,” but the describes most everyone in late-December, right?

Two big glops of the lotion was enough to coat me from head to toe and my skin felt soothed for hours.

The Body Shop Shea Body
Butter has a super-thick
and creamy formula.
The smell is where I am a little torn (hence the 3.5 stars). I liked the initial scent – the shea has a very comforting aroma. But I kept catching whiffs of something I just did not like – almost a doctor's-office-kind-of-sterile aroma. Maybe this lotion just did not respond well to my body chemistry.

It is also a product you can feel good about. The Body Shop uses community fair trade ingredients to make this product. (The shea and cocoa butters are from Ghana, babassu oil from Brazil and beeswax from Cameroon). I have heard of fair trade coffee but never a beauty product!

KEEP OR TOSS: This body butter is a little pricey for something with a scent I don't particularly like but I will be on the lookout for samples of this product in other varieties.

CHECK IT OUT: Find out more about Shea Body Butter and buy direct from The Body Shop (which offers free shipping for purchases over $50).
